MORE KAMPUNG BARUS IN THE MAKING

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad wrote in his blogs recently that one of his failures during his 22 years as Prime Minister was his administration's inability to rehabilitate and develop the Kampung Baru, in the federal territory, Kuala Lumpur.
No one would blame Tun Dr. Mahathir for his failure to rehabilitate and develop Kampung Baru. We know the reasons why Tun Dr Mahathir was reluctant to rehabilitate and to develop Kampung Baru. To rehabilitate and develop Kampung Baru is just like " Menang sorak kampung tergadai"
If Kuala Lumpur has one Kampung Baru, and the problems related to its development, Putrajaya has several "Kampung Barus" in the making. Though the Malay Villages – the would be "kampung Baru - are not in the Federal Territory, but several of them bordering Putrajaya, such as Kampung Abu Bakar Baginda, Sungai Merab, Kampung Limau Manis and Dengkil. These Malay villages are as old as Kampung Baru, in Kuala Lumpur.
Putrajaya, the Federal Government Administrative Centre took about ten years to develop. In its over-riding goal is to create a well planned city, besides self sustaining and balanced ecosystem of a garden City.
We are very proud of the Putrajaya development. But we are sad to think about the Malay Villages bordering Putrajaya which ultimately facing the same predicament as that of Kampung Baru.
